Myself and the OH travelled home for Christmas and it has been such a treat for us to be with our families again. The journey from Seattle to Ireland, was anything but a treat however. Noisy planes, packed airports and bad food! There is nothing worse than nasty plastic tasting plane food. Thankfully I made some delicious gooey chocolate brownies just before we flew which made it half way across the Atlantic. Continue Reading…
Having just moved to America, I’m learning new things every day! Ground almonds are called almond meal, chick peas are called garbanzo beans, and Americans look horrified when I offer them a mince pie. I now realise mince pies are just not that popular over this side of the pond. Just to clarify – not all mince pies contain meat. Continue Reading…
Greetings from a greyish Seattle! I’m slowly beginning to get into the holiday spirit, and have just started to think about Christmas recipes. I decided to make some mincemeat first, as it takes about a week to mature and for all the lovely flavours to mingle. It’s a pretty easy recipe, but there are a few little things that make these treats extra tasty and crispy. Continue Reading…
You might think it strange, but November is actually one of my favourite months of the year. There is so much colour with all the rusty leaves on the ground, and a sense of anticipation in the air coming up to Christmas. It’s a month of soups, stews, open fires and wrapping up warm on cold winter walks. Even though January and February have much the same weather, I’m almost bored of it by then. Having just arrived Seattle, I too am full of anticipation. Continue Reading…
Sometimes, there really is not enough hours in the day. I often find it hard to make time to make dessert. Right now, I have only two more sleeps until I go to Seattle. I still seem to have quiet a lot of things to do, and am short on both time and cooking equipment! I’m really looking forward to having all my kitcheny bits back. This lemon posset was a dream to make, requiring only four ingredients and no special tools. Continue Reading…
