Vegetable Arty Tart

June 8, 2012

Carrying on from my Rose Apple Tarts, I decided to make a similar savoury version using bright coloured vegetables – courgettes, carrots and aubergines. It turned out to be very pretty, but it did take a lot of work and patience! It’s a good one to make if you have a glut of vegetables in the summer, and a bit of time on your hands 🙂 Continue Reading…

S’tasty Bouillabaisse

May 23, 2012

Finally, it feels like the summer has arrived and it’s definitely time for something a bit lighter. For me, bouillabaisse is the sunny South of France in one big bubbling pot : Pernod, fennel, tomatoes, and succulent seafood. It always smells and tastes like the summer. Bouillabaisse was originally created by the fisherman in the port of Marseille using cheaper types of fish, like eel and rockfish, all the fish they were unable to sell. Continue Reading…

The second valuable lesson was that umeboshi plums really are an acquired taste and though I loved them, my other half is still gagging at the memory of them. I wanted to try something different and when I saw these weird Japanese plums on a TV food programme, I had to have them.

Cheesy Leek Quiche

April 14, 2011

You might have remembered me rambling on earlier this week about free range eggs and luscious leeks from the garden.  Well, I decided I would have to honour my hearty home grown ingredients with a suitably delicious recipe. I had a big hunk of nutty comtĂ© in the fridge as well, which I decided I would add to the mix. So, French cheese, sweet spring leeks and free range eggs….What would you have  made with this lucky dip of ingredients?  Continue Reading…

Crispy Omelette Pancakes

March 20, 2011

This recipe is kind of a combination of an omelette, a pancake and a quesadilla. It’s a really nice tasty snack and you can fill the omelettes with whatever cheese, meat, veg you have leftover in your fridge. It would also work really well with something like a smoked salmon, crème fraiche and spinach filling.  This is a great brunch or tea-time treat. Continue Reading…
