As regular readers of my blog might have noticed, I cook lots of fish but never any meat, that’s because I’m a pescitarian (no to meat but yes to fish!) So, I am always excited to hear about the opening of a new fish restaurant. I was extra excited to find out, that I had won the chance to be part of a bloggers table in the newly opened Matt The Thresher- Seafood Bar & Grill in Dublin 2.
Stephen Caviston, MTT’s affable head chef, taught us oyster shucking, prawn shelling and gave us lots of fab fishy food ideas. Stephen was a mine of information, and his passion for food is infectious. The restaurant itself is a very calm space with lots of cosy nooks and crannies, and the light dining area upstairs is perfect for lapping up the late evening sunshine.
MTT’s is relaxed yet stylish and is just the place for an after work pint and a plate of juicy oysters. The food is prepared very simply and without any fuss. For some, it might be too simple, but for me it highlights the quality of the produce. Cavistons stock fresh Irish fish and take pride in knowing all their suppliers personally. Ted Browne’s smoked salmon from Dingle was a real hit for me.
Overall I enjoyed the ambience, the great food and the lovely company. Isn’t that what eating out is all about? Due to, *ahem* a technical issue I don’t have any photos from the evening but Aoife from I Can Has Cook? kindly provided me with this delectable photo of pan fried hake on home-made brown bread. For this tasty snack alone, I will be making a return visit.
Thanks again Aoife and to Rachael of Gastronomics , Catherine of the Runcible Spoon, Lily of the Amateur Mexican Cook and Emily From China Village for your fantastic company. Kudos to the IFBA for organising this event and getting all of us bloggers together at the one table.
