Chocolate biscuit cake is a popular home-made cookie bar in Ireland. It’s similar to rocky road, and the ingredients are very much to taste. Chocolate biscuit cake is so popular in Ireland that people often choose it as their wedding cake, with tiers of chocolate biscuit cake covered with white fondant icing.
As the days are getting a bit colder and darker, I am hankering more and more for a nice cup of tea and a biscuit. No matter what kind of a day you are having, tea and a biscuit always seems to make the day better. Continue Reading…
Despicable Me is one of my favourite animated films. It’s funny, dark, and distinctly different to a classic Disney animation. Gru is a complex cartoon character, and the minions are almost modern day oompa loompas. It’s full of fun and mad ideas, and the minions really steal the show.

It’s mad when you think about it, someone tucking into a bourbon biscuit and a cup of tea during World War 1. We’re just back from a really enjoyable week in sunny Madeira. We dined in lovely restaurants, enjoyed great food and of course had some Madeira wine! In ways, it was nice to be back though. Back to normal food and cooking in the kitchen. When I go away, I always come back craving something simple. This week I was craving tea and a custard cream. They are yummy with a flask of tea, when you’re on the side of the cold mountain, which is where I usually seem to eat them. So I decided to try and recreate my own custard cream, and somehow, they tasted better than any custard cream I’ve ever eaten. Sweet, slightly salty, crunchy and creamy at the same time, these are custard creams to die for. I adapted this recipe from a BBC Good Food recipe. Continue Reading…
Whenever I read a book like The Hunger Games, I get totally immersed in that world. I want to taste the biscuits from Mellark’s bakery; I want to feast my eyes on pale purple melon. I want to live it as I read it. With the movie comes out this weekend, we’ll finally get to see if the Hollywood version lives up to all our imaginations. I wanted to make a simple biscuit for a Hunger Games feast. These biscuits are divine with a cold glass of milk and a perfect treat while reading. Continue Reading…
