Beer Time

February 21, 2011

I just discovered a great new Irish beer and I wanted to share. There are some amazing new micro breweries springing up around the country and I think they deserve our support. I found this beer in a great new gastro pub – The Exchequer Gastro pub who serve fantastic food as well as having a great collection of beers.  But back to the beer. Helvic blonde has all the flavour of any good German or Belgian beer. It’s refreshing and hoppy with a hint of clove and honey.

Helvic Gold is brewed by The Dungarvan Brewing Company. The company is run  two brother in laws Cormac O’Dwyer and Tom Dalton along with their wives Jen and Claire. Dungarvan Brewing Company also brew Copper Coast Red Ale. I am not typically a fan of ale, but I found this ale very fruity and caramelly. I have yet to try their stout Black Rock, but I am looking forward to experience their take on the traditional Irish stout.

I really hope this Dungarvan family propers and their beers will begin to be stocked in a lot more pubs and off licences around the country. If you want to try this beer for yourself, they have a list of suppliers on their website, where you can buy their beer.
