Paloma

This is most delicious cocktail I know for those balmy summer evenings. I just read an article that said Seattle is the best place to experience summer in America, and so far it’s been true for me. The weather has been amazing. Most places in Washington don’t have air conditioning, so I’m always looking for novel ways to keep cool. Ice tea and home-made lemonade are great refreshing weekday drinks, and this cocktail is my new favorite weekend cooler.  The Paloma cocktail is a Mexican concoction of tequila, grapefruit and lime, and tastes even more wonderful that the usual lime margarita. Fresh grapefruit is so refreshing and the lime and sugar brings out that zesty flavor. The glass is rimmed with the lightest pink flakes of salt which make this cocktail look peachy pink. So, if you are planning a barbeque or just fancy a cocktail this weekend, this Paloma will go down a treat.

Ingredients

  • Wedge of fresh lime
  • Murray River flake salt / salt of your choice
  • 2oz / ¼ cup of fresh grapefruit juice
  • 1 tablespoon of fresh lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar
  • 2oz / ¼ cup of tequila
  • Soda water / club soda
  • Ice
  • Lime slices

Method

Run a wedge of lime over the rim of  a glass, and then rub the edge of the glass on a plate of salt.
Mix the fresh grapefruit and lime  juice with the sugar. Stir to allow the sugar to dissolve and add the tequila. Pour this into the  glass, then add some ice and top with soda water. Garnish with  a few slices of fresh lime. Enjoy!
