Bacon + Egg Cups with Kale Chips

April 20, 2013

The OH jokingly said he is going to open up a restaurant called Fad. The idea of this fantasy restaurant is that it serves only the latest food fads – whether it is macaroons, bacon, kale, cupcakes or cake pops! He could be onto something 🙂 people become obsessed by food fads. Continue Reading…

Tomato and Ricotta Tarts

September 14, 2012

Now that the days are closing in and that last bit of sun is squinting through the trees, it’s time to get ready for some hearty soups and stews.  But  just before I get the big heavy pots and casserole dishes out, I thought I would make one last, light, and simple tomato tart. The tomatoes at the end of summer are always intensely sweet, as if they’ve soaked up every last drop of sunshine. Continue Reading…

A Hearty Brunch

February 13, 2012

I don’t know about you, but I kind of think girls get a lot of spoiling on Valentines Day and the men are sometimes a bit left out. So ladies, this is one for the men. This is the perfect brunch to spoil the man in your life and earn you lots of brownie points. The creamy hollandaise, buttery spinach and delicious smoked salmon is sure to get his heart racing. It is a bit decadent and takes a bit of time to make, but Valentines is only once a year. Continue Reading…

Mary Berry’s Tarte Au Citron

January 12, 2012

There’s something about Mary Berry. She’s the kind of cook that stands the test of time and produces recipes that can always be relied on. My mother’s favourite cookbook at home was the old Hamlyn cookbook and Mary Berry was one of the books contributing authors. Mary’s recipes were the ones we always used, her tarts, cakes and pies were always the crispest, the lightest and the tastiest. On the inside cover of the old Hamlyn cookbook there is a black and white photo of Mary as a young cook, she was quite a stunner in her day and still looks great. Mary’s career continues to thrive and her talent and charisma have wowed a whole new generation of bakers on the Great British Bake off. Mary Berry is somewhat of a baking icon and the kind of person you’d love to share a cup of tea and a slice of cake with.   Continue Reading…

Kedgeree Samosas

September 27, 2011

Samosas are essentially crispy triangular pastry parcels of savoury food and are originally Asian in origin. I love the idea of samosas; it’s the perfect portable lunch, less messy than a sandwich and a lighter alternative to the pie. Samosas are little pockets full of flavour and spice and are served with complimentary chutney. I recently had this strange idea that kedgeree would work really well as samosas. I couldn’t find a recipe so I just formulated my own. So this dish is one hundred percent S’tasty original. It tastes delicious and you won’t find it anywhere else 🙂

Anchovy and egg salad with aioli

September 9, 2011

I think it’s probably safe to say that the Irish summer is well and truly over. Rain is pelting down and attacking the windows and the trees outside are being whipped of their leaves. Autumn is most definitely upon us, so this may be the last summery salad that I post for a while. I saw this salad on Rick Stein’s Spain on BBC and just had to make it. I am not generally a fan of anchovies on their own, though I like them in dressings or sauces. So, I wanted to try this salad as a way of starting to appreciate the humble anchovy. This salad really relies on the quality of ingredients, so good anchovies and free range eggs are a must. The accompanying aioli is so delicious, that, I’d nearly eat it alone with  a spoon. This salad makes a great starter or tea-time snack and it definitely convinced me to eat more anchovies. Continue Reading…
