Seattle, Here I come!

In just one months time I will moving to Seattle. It’s an enormous adventure and an exciting new chapter in our lives. Having been for a visit, I fell in love with Pike Place market and all the little farmers makers dotted around Woodinville and Kirkland. Fifties Food Bible

Last week I was given something very special. My grandmother gave me her first ever cookbook ‘Good Housekeeping’ which was given to her by her Mother. The book dates back to the nineteen fifties and the old yellowed pages are splattered and stained. The spine  is coming apart from over-use and the pages are clinging on by just a few threads. The book is crammed with hand written recipes and notes neatly penned by my grandmother. It’s also cluttered with cut-outs from the paper with recipes that caught her eye. I feel like I am going back in time, as I read the old recipes and paper cuttings from a time gone by.

The Plucky One

At first glance this picture might look like three cats eating from a dish, but it is in fact two cats and a hen! You might remember from my previous post that the cats were a little suspicious of the free range hens, however a lot has changed since then. I am sad to say that the hens were attacked and savaged by a local dog and now there remains only one single hen.  She was always the plucky one and apparently she cleverly hid in the garage when the dog came, but she was pretty shaken when found.
