Nutella

Chocolate hazelnut nut spread (otherwise known as Nutella®) is one of the most popular spreads there is. There is something about that combination of creamy chocolate and nuts that makes you just want to eat it straight out of the jar. I’m a big Nutella fan, and I wanted to try and make my own home-made version to see if it tasted any better. The good news is that it is surprisingly easy to make. Home-made butter is one of life’s little luxuries. Good butter can make anything taste better. So far, I haven’t been that impressed with American butter. It’s kind of anemic and greasy and not salty at all. We have great shellfish here, but it’s so disappointing when you get some delicious crab and it comes served with a dish of mediocre melted butter. The Pecking Order…

To say my Dad’s hens are free range is a bit of an understatement. He was given four hens a few years ago, and had built an average size coop and hen run for them to roam around. He became quite fond of the hens and decided to *extend* the hen run.  Which is great. Now the hens had loads of free space to run around and scratch. The next time I came home I discovered that the hen run had been *extended again* and now encompassed our whole back garden. Fantastic. The hens were now getting really plump and laying lots of lovely eggs. However when I went home last weekend I discovered that that the hens had not been happy with the extension on the extension.   Continue Reading…
